Skin Cancer Management

Greensthetics offers prompt and efficient diagnosis and treatment for concerns related to skin cancer.

Over 95% of skin cancers are caused by UV radiation. In Australia, UV levels can harm unprotected skin year-round, not just in warmer months. UV radiation, which is invisible and unrelated to temperature, can cause sunburn, premature aging, and cellular damage, increasing skin cancer risk. This cumulative damage is irreversible and may not be visible until much later.

Skin Biopsies

A skin biopsy is a procedure in which a small sample of skin is excised for microscopic examination to diagnose skin conditions or diseases.

Types of skin biopsy procedures include, but not limited to:

  • Shave biopsy: A razor-like tool scrapes the surface layers of the skin (epidermis and dermis) to collect a cell sample. Stitches are typically not required afterward.
  • Punch biopsy: A round cutting tool removes a small core of skin, encompassing deeper layers including the epidermis, dermis, and superficial fat. Stitches may be necessary to close the wound.
  • Excisional biopsy: A scalpel removes an entire lump or an irregular skin area, including a margin of healthy skin and deeper layers. Stitches are often needed to close the wound.

The choice of biopsy type depends on your symptoms and the extent of skin involvement.

Minor Skin Procedure

Minor skin procedures are minimally invasive treatments performed by a general practitioner (GP) in a clinical setting.

We perform procedures under local anesthesia, including skin lesion excision and mole or skin tag removal. Our treatment room is fully equipped, with a practice nurse assisting during each procedure. All doctors will explain each step, provide post-care instructions, and discuss any follow-up appointments.

Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags, though often unsightly, are generally harmless. They are common on the eyelids, neck, and armpits.

Skin tags range from 1mm to 1cm in size and are made of collagen and blood vessels surrounded by skin. They often develop in areas with friction, such as the armpits, groin, eyelids, neck, or under the breasts. As people age, skin tags become more common, affecting around half of all adults. While usually harmless, if a skin tag causes discomfort or aesthetic concern, it’s best to consult a healthcare provider about removal options.

Mole Mapping

Mole mapping is a non-invasive procedure that takes high-resolution photos to document the location of moles and skin lesions.

Mole mapping tracks changes in size, shape, or color, aiding early detection of skin cancers like melanoma and enabling prompt treatment. Combined with specialist skin exams, it’s key for diagnosing melanoma in high-risk individuals. Early detection offers a 99% cure rate.
