Skin Checks

Skin Checks

At Greensthetics, our team consists of highly-qualified doctors who specialise in skin-screening assessments.

Protect yourself and your loved ones with a skin cancer screening. Our physicians, with advanced qualifications and extensive dermoscopy experience, can detect melanoma and other skin cancers at their earliest stages.

What it targets?

Doctors use a dermatoscope for thorough skin checks, examining all areas, including those under garments, as skin cancers can develop in sun-protected areas. While you can choose to have specific spots checked, a full exam is recommended. Genital and breast areas are not routinely examined, but self-check before your appointment is advised. Please inform your doctor of any concerns in these areas during your consultation

Treatment Process

  • Initial Consultation: The doctor will review your medical and family history of skin conditions and cancer to assess your risk factors and customise the examination.
  • Full-Body Examination: A thorough skin assessment will cover all areas, including the scalp, interdigital spaces, and nail beds. Dermoscopy will be used to closely examine any suspicious lesions.
  • Documentation: High-definition photographs of suspicious moles or lesions will be taken to track changes in size, shape, color, and location over time.
  • Preparation: Female patients will wear a gown, keeping their bra and underwear on, while male patients will remain in their underwear. The doctor will conduct a thorough skin examination, addressing any concerns, and may perform biopsies if necessary.
  • Subsequent Procedures: Suspicious lesions may be biopsied or treated on the same day, with additional procedures scheduled if needed. After biopsies, patients will receive dressings and clear post-care instructions before leaving.

Benefits

Skin cancer, including melanoma, is common and can be life-threatening, especially in sun-exposed countries like Australia. Regular skin checks help detect suspicious moles or lesions early, improving treatment outcomes and reducing the need for invasive procedures. Proactive skin checks lower skin cancer risk and protect overall health.

Pre and Post-Treatment Care

PRE-TREATMENT: To ensure optimal visibility during your skin examination and photography:

  • Avoid makeup, fake tan, or nail polish, and ensure your skin is clean for the appointment.
  • Mark any spots of concern for thorough examination.
  • For spots in hairy areas, shave around them a few days before; for larger areas, wax or shave at least a week ahead.
  • Wait about a month after IPL or laser treatments, as they can affect mole appearance.
  • Postpone if you’ve used fake tan, as it can alter spot appearance.
  • Moisturise daily, starting a week before, to prevent flaky skin from obscuring spots.
