Skin Checks

Skin Checks

At Greensthetics, our team consists of highly-qualified doctors who specialise in skin-screening assessments.

Keep yourself and your loved ones protected with a skin cancer screening. Our physicians have advanced qualifications and extensive experience in dermoscopy, allowing us to detect melanoma and other skin cancers at their earliest stages.

What it targets?

Each doctor follows their own protocol for conducting skin checks, typically using a handheld skin microscope called a dermatoscope to examine all skin areas. Skin cancers can develop in sun-protected areas, so a comprehensive skin check is strongly advised, including areas under garments. However, you can choose to have only specific spots examined, and we respect your preference for a focused examination. Genital and breast areas are not routinely examined, but self-checking before your appointment is recommended. Please inform your doctor of any concerning lesions or spots in these areas during your consultation.

Treatment Process

  • Initial Consultation: The doctor will review your medical history, including past skin conditions and family history of skin cancer, to assess your individual risk factors and tailor the examination accordingly.
  • Full-Body Examination: A comprehensive skin assessment will be conducted, encompassing all areas including less exposed regions like the scalp, interdigital spaces, and nail beds. Dermoscopy will be used to closely examine suspicious lesions.
  • Documentation: Detailed high-definition photographs of suspicious moles or lesions will be taken to monitor changes in size, shape, color, and location over subsequent visits.
  • Preparation: Female patients will change into a gown, retaining their bra and underwear, while male patients will keep their underwear on. The doctor will systematically examine the skin, addressing specific patient concerns, and may perform immediate biopsies if needed.
  • Subsequent Procedures: Suspicious lesions may undergo biopsy or treatment on the same day. Further procedures will be scheduled as required. After biopsies, patients will receive appropriate dressings and clear post-care instructions before leaving.

Benefits

Skin cancer, including melanoma, is prevalent and can be life-threatening, particularly in sun-exposed countries such as Australia.

Skin checks enable healthcare providers to detect suspicious moles, lesions, or abnormalities suggestive of skin cancer.

Early detection facilitates prompt treatment, significantly improving the likelihood of successful outcomes and minimizing the necessity for invasive procedures.

Regular skin checks empower individuals to protect their health proactively, lower their skin cancer risk, and safeguard their overall well-being.

Pre and Post-Treatment Care

PRE-TREATMENT: To ensure optimal visibility during your skin examination and photography:

  • Please avoid wearing makeup, fake tan, or nail polish, and ensure your skin is clean.
  • If you have specific spots of concern, consider marking them to ensure they are thoroughly examined.
  • For spots in hairy areas, shaving around them a few days prior to your appointment may be beneficial. For larger areas, waxing or shaving should be done at least a week beforehand to allow for healing.
  • If you have undergone IPL or laser treatments recently, it’s advisable to wait about a month before scheduling your skin check, as these treatments can affect mole appearance.
  • If you’ve applied fake or spray tan, consider postponing your skin check for a few weeks, as tan can alter spot appearance during examination.
  • Dry or flaky skin can obscure spots; moisturizing daily, preferably starting a week before your appointment, can help.
